FSI Wallnut Blasting

FSI is being used in an increasing number of petrol engines as technology allows the use of Piezoelectric Fuel Injectors have allowed the possibility and enabled increases in engine efficiency and performance to make us of the technology. Most modern Petrol engines utilise Direct Injection Technology, so whatever the Term used they all suffer with carbon build up on the back of the inlet valves, so it could for example be a VW, Audi, Range Rover or a Ford, almost all manufacturers use the same direct injection systems,

Unfortunately FSI engines suffer from a number of symptoms and mechanical problems, these are commonly but not limited to :-

  • Misfiring
  • Reduced performance
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Fuel pump/Camshaft premature wear
  • Timing chain wear

We have noticed that most of the symptoms & associated problems with FSI engines are increased on vehicles that spend the majority of their drive time in urban areas, vehicles that are driven hard and at high speed (within the relevant speed limits) are less likely to be affected.

There are a number of things that can be done to minimise the symptoms and resulting failures, the main one being regular (less than manufacturers service intervals) oil and filter changes with very high quality oil with a high flashpoint that maintains excellent lubricity at the elevated temperatures that are common in FSI engines.

We have developed a specific oil and filter change process that reduces the problems often found with these engines.

FSI Running Problems

Unfortunately we are increasingly being contacted by owners who's cars are already displaying the symptoms in the bullet points above, where we are utilising our specialist Vehicle Dealer Specific equipment knowledge and skills to determine and resolve these problems.

First a warning, when it comes to the problem of carbon build-up in the ports and intake valves on these FSI engines cleaning chemicals DO NOT work, so dont waste your money, even for expensive Terraclene and BG Products cleaners - it is our experience that they just cant work and having inspected enough cars that have been treated with these additive type products that we are sure that they don't remove all the carbon, or maybe any of it.

FSI Carbon Cleaning of Intake valves & Ports

We are working with one of the worlds largest specialist companies that work with vehicle manufacturers in resolving issues like this issue of carbon restriction on valves and in the ports. The result is that we are able to remove the carbon using a specialist media blasting process that removes the carbon and residue without damaging the surface finish of either the valves or the ports themselves, unlike Walnut blasting that leaves an etched surface that allows carbon to take hold much easier, the polished finish that is revealed using the media we use actually helps prevent future adhesion.

Specialist Diagnostics Skills and Equipment

We also have the ability to determine and diagnose the cause of all the problems that are specific to FSI engines and can repair the problems and carry out preventative maintenance and offer servicing advice and assistance specific to our customers needs and requirements.
